Fallfest
Sunday, October 11, 2009, I drove myself and a friend to Lancaster for the Big i105’s Fallfest. We got there right before the performers started taking the stage and there was a sea of people. After waking around for a while we found a seat. My friend’s parents joined us and we had a very fun, but cold day. The artists that preformed were Little Big Town, Darryl Worley, Chris Young, Sarah Buxton, and the Trailer Choir.

Somers Town
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 I stayed after school for the I-House movie night. I helped to set up and even ran across the street for soda. There were snacks to eat as we waited for the movie to start. The movie finally started around 6:15pm and ran until around 7:30pm. It was an international movie called “Somers Town,” it was not exactly the kind of movie I watch and would probably never watch it again. I got to talk to some people both that I knew and that I have never met before. One such person was Stefan Klosowski who gave me information on a talk he would be giving the next week called “Transylvania and Dracula: History vs. Hollywood.” It sounded very interesting and I would have like to go, but I never made it to the lecture.Taken
The night of October 8, 2009 I went to my school’s (Harrisburg University of Science and Technology) movie night where I watched “Taken.” It was a great movie and I have a lot of fun talking to other students and my friends. At around 6pm we had pizza and soda; then at 7pm we started the movie in our auditorium which as a very impressive screen and sound system.Tuesday, October 6, 2009
Diversity: More than black and white
This evening I went to a talk at my school called Diversity: More than black and white. The
speaker was Joyce Davis a journalist that spend more than three decades overseas interviewing some very interesting people. She is also the author of "Between Jihad and Salaam" and "Martyrs." She gave a really great talk, made some really great points, and encouraged everyone to talk as well. One great point that she brought up was that we as Americans are at a disadvantage because we know very little about the rest of the world in general, but most of the world stays informed about us. Also Americans what things now and they do not
want to wait for them, but we cannot take that attitude toward war. In most of these countries we are fighting they do not expect the war to be won in their life time; they are in for the long haul and we either have to commit to that as well or leave now because if we are not committed it will never work. Also we need to remember that suicide bombers are not the status quo and we cannot judge all Muslims based on what they do. On of the most important things that I think she said was that there is no military solution, some fighting might be necessary, but the solution will come from talking. Lol, the funniest thing she said however was that we should get mars to invade us because then we would all stop fighting and work to a common goal. A connection that I made when she was talking about America fighting a traditional war in a war that is no longer traditional is that we have become the Red Coats. We are now that ones that insist that this is how you fight, but in the end we will get our butts kicked if we do not change our way of thinking. I really enjoyed hearing Joyce talk and am looking forward to reading her books.
