On Saturday, November 8, 2008 I was up early and at my church a little after eight o’clock in the morning. As others came the guys started tossing a football in the parking lot. Around nine we decided to head out; there were about twenty people there, seven adults, a third grader, a bunch of middle school kids, and myself. I had done Scouting for Food for a number of years and knew what I was doing. I was in a car with one of the moms and her third grade daughter. We went around several neighborhoods putting the bags on the doors and met up with one of the other groups several times. It was a wet morning and a little rainy, but it was not extremely cold and I had put the bags out in worse weather. We got done with our area early and went to help one of the other groups. By eleven we were all back at the church and I was headed home. The next Saturday, November 15, 2008 another group of people from my church picked up all of the filled bags.

Our Body:The Universe Within
On Saturday, November 1, 2008 I went to the Whitaker Center to see Our Body: The Universe Within. My sister and I went to the Whitaker Center around 3pm were we met up with a group of people from HYP (Harrisburg Young Professionals). We waited in the lobby for the rest of the group and then went through the line to get our tickets. After everyone had paid we went down several flights of stairs until we got all the way to the exhibit. We gave our tickets and listened as the man at the entrance told us a little about the exhibit. Both my sister and I thought that we would be grossed out by what we saw and would want to go through as quickly as we could. In truth we did go through the exhibit rather quickly, but not because it was gross. We found that everything looked rather fake and we were not all that interested. It was a good exhibit and I am glad that I am now able to say that I have seen it, but after hearing people saying how great it was I was a little disappointed. Wednesday, October 22, 2008
Mulching Forester St
On October 4, 2008, I met several other students, all who happened to be girls, and Miss. Olivetti at the Student Center, a little before nine in the morning. We had coffee and donuts and a little after nine we drove to Forester Street were we met people from Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP). We started pulling weeds ahead of the mulchers and later helped to put finishing touches on the mulching job. It was a cold wet day, but we had fun working together as a group and we got to talk as we were working. After we were finished we went to someone’s house were we ate a lot of good food.
Can We Talk About Race
On September 25, 2008, I went to hear Beverly Tatum speak as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series. We meet in front of Sci-Tech High at about six fifteen and left for the lecture which started at seven in the Brubaker Auditorium on the Messiah College Campus. Dr. Tatum’s lecture was title “Can We Talk About Race?” which also so happens to be the title of her most recent book. The audience was mostly college students, particularly Messiah College students, but there was also a number of adults who were mostly faculty of different colleges; I think the youngest person there was maybe 16, most were at least 18 and older. After the lecture there was a question and answer session which I found to be slightly more interesting than the actual lecture. Not that the lecture was not good, but in the question and answer session what she was saying sounded more real and less rehearsed. Also, in her actual lecture she was throwing statistics and facts around, a lot of which were not all that new of thought provoking for me. After the lecture while we were waiting for our vans I got a chance to talk to Nancy Adams, the HU librarian. On the way back to the school then I was able to talk to our van driver, Brandon, who was a student at Messiah College.
